Saudi International Vaccination Forum (SIVF) Award Recognizes Global Leaders Driving Innovation in Vaccinology and Immunization

Saudi International Vaccination Forum (SIVF) Award Recognizes Global Leaders Driving Innovation in Vaccinology and Immunization

The Vaccine Award returns this year as it continues to highlight excellence in vaccinology by recognizing individuals and organizations whose work has significantly advanced vaccine research, innovation, and immunization programs. Presented as part of the annual Saudi International Vaccination Forum, the award celebrates groundbreaking achievements that strengthen disease prevention and improve vaccination outcomes across the region and globally.

This annual forum underscores our strong commitment to prioritizing prevention as a cornerstone of health and wellbeing, in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030. Through scientific exchange and regional collaboration, the forum reinforces immunization as a strategic pillar of resilient and sustainable healthcare systems.

As a highlight of the forum, the Vaccine Award reflects a growing commitment to promoting scientific excellence, cross-sector collaboration, and innovation in immunization.

“Through the annual Vaccine Award, we recognize the innovators, researchers, and public health leaders whose dedication is transforming prevention and safeguarding communities.” said Dr. Majid Alshamrani, Forum Chairman.

“Immunization is not only a scientific achievement — it is a commitment to protect every stage of life and strengthen the resilience of our health systems. The Vaccine Award represents both recognition of excellence and our continued commitment to advancing health protection” added Dr. Fayssal Farahat, Forum Co-chair.

The award recognizes excellence across several key areas in vaccinology, including Vaccine Research and Innovation, Public Health Impact and Immunization Programs, Community Engagement and Advocacy, Digital Health and Technology in Vaccination, and Vaccine Safety and Monitoring. A Lifetime Achievement in Vaccinology category also honors individuals whose careers have made lasting contributions to vaccine science, policy, and public health implementation.

Among the distinguished recipients in 2025 was Prof. Jaffar Al-Tawfiq, an internationally recognized infectious diseases expert at Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare. He received the Award for Vaccine Research and Innovation in recognition of his extensive research on emerging infectious diseases as well as his work on infection prevention and vaccination strategies during large-scale gatherings such as Hajj.

Reflecting on the recognition, Prof. Al-Tawfiq said in a statement published on the website of Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare:

“The COVID-19 pandemic was a stark reminder that vaccinology is crucial to saving millions of lives across the world. However, those of us who work in the field know there is so much more to be done. I am honored to receive this recognition, but my work will continue.”

By celebrating achievements across the full spectrum of vaccinology, the Saudi Vaccine Award aims to inspire further scientific breakthroughs, strengthen immunization programs, and promote global collaboration in tackling infectious disease threats.

Nominations for the upcoming Vaccine Award are open to researchers, healthcare professionals, policymakers, and community leaders whose work has demonstrated meaningful impact in advancing vaccination and public health. Award recipients will be honored during the Saudi International Vaccination Forum, where global and regional experts gather to share insights and shape the future of immunization.
