Could you share your journey to becoming a plastic surgeon and give us an insight into your daily responsibilities?
I’m originally from Paris, France, where I completed my medical studies and plastic surgery residency. I’ve been practicing as a plastic surgeon for seven years now. In France, I focused on reconstructive surgery (particularly after breast and skin cancer) and aesthetic surgery (breast and facial surgery).
I am now based full-time in Dubai, specializing exclusively in aesthetic plastic surgery at Beauté Concept by CSHP in Jumeirah. I moved at the beginning of this year, drawn by the opportunity to work at a leading hospital in Dubai, as well as the appealing lifestyle and climate, which made it the perfect choice for me and my family.
What are the most rewarding and challenging aspects of your work as a breast surgeon?
One of the most rewarding aspects of plastic surgery is witnessing the transformative impact it can have on a consumer’s self-esteem and quality of life.
For instance, after a breast reduction, women often express newfound confidence and comfort in their bodies, relieved from the physical and emotional burdens of large breasts. Seeing consumers embrace their appearance and regain their sense of self-worth is deeply gratifying, knowing that I’ve played a role in improving their self-esteem.
Can you explain how the Mia® technique works?
Mia® technique offers a significant advancement in breast surgery. Unlike traditional methods, which require larger incisions and general anesthesia, Mia® results in a small incision under the armpit and is performed under local anesthesia. This minimally invasive approach not only minimizes scarring but also reduces discomfort and recovery time.
A key advantage of Mia® technique is its preservation of breast tissue. Instead of cutting into the breast tissue to create a pocket for the implant, Mia® procedure employs a balloon that is inflated to gently expand the tissue. This approach results in a more natural-looking outcome and potentially reduces the risk of complications associated with cutting into the breast tissue.
Another notable benefit of Mia® technique is the shorter surgery time and faster recovery period. The procedure typically takes only 15 minutes, allowing the consumer to return home within an hour. This significantly reduces the downtime and discomfort associated with traditional breast augmentation.
In conclusion, Mia® technique represents a significant advancement in breast enhancement. Its benefits include smaller incisions, local anesthesia, preservation of breast tissue, shorter surgery time, and faster recovery.
What materials are used in Mia® implants, and how do they differ from traditional breast implants?
Mia® implants are a revolutionary advancement in breast enhancement, featuring a unique biocompatible silicone gel that is exceptionally soft and pliable. Unlike traditional implants, which often have a round shape and a firmer texture, Mia® implants are diamond-shaped and offer a more subtle enhancement. This innovative gel implant is designed to seamlessly integrate with the surrounding breast tissue, providing a more harmonious and natural result.
The softness and flexibility of Mia® implants allow them to conform more naturally to the shape of the breast, resulting in a more aesthetically pleasing outcome. Additionally, the diamond shape of Mia® implants can help to create a more lifted and projected appearance, without sacrificing the natural contours of the breast. Mia® implants offer a significant improvement over traditional breast implants in terms of both feel and appearance. Their unique silicone gel composition and diamond shape contribute to a more natural and aesthetically pleasing result, making them an excellent choice for women seeking breast harmonization.
What is the recovery process like after the Mia® procedure, and how soon can consumers return to normal activities?
The recovery process after Mia® procedure is typically very quick, with many consumers returning to their normal daily activities within two to three days. While some discomfort may be experienced for up to a week, most consumers report minimal pain after just a few days. Light exercise can usually be resumed after three weeks, and it’s recommended to wear a supportive bra for two to three weeks post-surgery.
How do you ensure personalized care and satisfaction throughout the Mia® procedure, from consultation to post-procedure care?
To ensure the highest level of care and support throughout the Mia® procedure and recovery, I maintain close communication with the consumer. I provide each woman with my personal contact information so she can reach out with any questions or concerns at any time. I also conduct regular follow-up appointments at seven days, one month, six months, and one year after surgery.
This ongoing care allows me to monitor the healing process, promptly address any issues, and ensure that each patient is fully satisfied with her results.
Who is an ideal candidate for the Mia® procedure?
The ideal candidate for Mia® procedure is a woman with smaller breasts who desires a modest enhancement of one or two cup sizes. This procedure is particularly well suited for individuals who are satisfied with the overall shape of their breasts but seek a subtle enhancement to achieve breast harmonization.
Consumers who desire a natural-looking result, with a slight increase in volume and cleavage, without an overly exaggerated appearance, are ideal candidates for the Mia® procedure. Conversely, women with larger breasts or those seeking a significant increase in cup size may benefit more from traditional breast augmentation. Additionally, Mia® is a good option for women who prefer a less invasive procedure with a shorter recovery time.
Does breast sensation change after the Mia® procedure?
One of the most notable benefits is the preservation of natural sensation and function in the breast tissue. Unlike some traditional procedures that can interfere with nipple sensation or lactation, Mia® is designed to minimize disruption to these vital aspects of breast function. Following Mia® procedure, some consumers may experience temporary hypersensitivity in the nipple area. This sensation is typically mild and resolves within a few weeks. Additionally, there may be a slight burning sensation around the scar for the first two to three weeks. However, over time, the implant will integrate seamlessly with the breast tissue, and any hypersensitivity will subside.
Are there any concerns for consumers who wish to have children or breastfeed after undergoing the Mia® procedure?
If a woman is planning to have children shortly, it’s best to postpone it. Hormonal fluctuations during pregnancy and breastfeeding can affect breast shape and size, potentially impacting the outcome of the procedure.
While it’s generally safe to have breast augmentation with implants after breastfeeding, it’s advisable to wait at least six months following the completion of breastfeeding to allow for any hormonal changes to stabilize.
This will help ensure that the desired results are achieved and that the implants are placed in the most optimal position. It’s important to consult with your plastic surgeon to discuss your circumstances and determine the best timing for breast augmentation based on personal goals and medical history.
Is it safe for women to have a mammography before and after the Mia® procedure?
I strongly recommend that women undergo mammograms before the Mia® procedure. This is essential for early detection of any breast abnormalities and to monitor the long-term health of the breast tissue.
I typically prescribe either mammograms or ultrasound every two years for my patients. The flexibility of breast implants does not interfere with the accuracy of mammograms.
