Tell us about yourself? Your specialty? Your philosophy as a surgeon?
I’m Dr. Mohamad Kodeih, I’m a plastic & reconstructive surgeon with 15 years of clinical practice. I’m specialized in body contouring as well as breast surgery. My philosophy concerning surgery is to always provide the best outcome with the least scars in the body. The less invasive the procedure, the less the pain and complications post-surgery and the faster the healing and recovery.
Can you discuss any specializations or areas of expertise within plastic surgery that you’re particularly passionate about?
I am deeply passionate about promoting breast health and well-being. I believe in an approach that extends beyond just cosmetic enhancement, focusing on communication with my patients, education, and comprehensive care. By integrating the latest advancements in surgical techniques with a patient-centered approach, I strive to empower individuals to make informed decisions about their breast health, ensuring not only aesthetic satisfaction but also long-term physical and emotional wellness.
How do you stay abreast of emerging techniques and technologies in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery?
As a plastic surgeon committed to delivering the highest standard of care, I prioritize staying abreast of emerging techniques and technologies in both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. I regularly attend conferences, engage in continuous education programs, and collaborate with colleagues to exchange insights and experiences. By remaining at the forefront of advancements, I ensure that my patients benefit from the most innovative and effective treatments available, resulting in optimal outcomes and satisfaction.
That’s why I always attend conferences and meetings as well as congresses worldwide in Europe and in the United States, as well as in the Gulf region and my focus is mostly on breast aesthetics and breast reconstruction since this is my area of expertise and passion.
What advancements in technology have had the most significant impact on the field of plastic surgery in recent years?
During the last five years, there has been some innovation in body contouring which brought good advancement in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery, offering safer, more precise procedures with enhanced results. From minimally invasive techniques like liposuction to advanced technologies such as laser-assisted body sculpting, patients now have many options for achieving their desired aesthetic goals with minimal downtime and optimal outcomes.
As an example, the integration of 3D imaging and virtual reality simulations allows for personalized treatment planning, ensuring that patients have a clear understanding of their potential results before undergoing surgery. With ongoing research and innovation in the field, the future of body contouring continues to hold promise for even more advanced techniques and transformative outcomes. We have a lot of new devices that are based on energy and heat and radiofrequency that provide a lot of skin tightening without having to cut skin in certain cases.
What are some of the latest trends and innovations in breast health that plastic surgeons should be aware of?
Relating to breast surgery there has not been a major innovation in the past 30 years until the recent innovation that we have which is Mia®, that’s the reason that I was so attracted to this procedure because I believe as a plastic surgeon we are the leaders in this aspect of surgery where we need to have minimal scars as well as minimal downtime with the highest precision and best outcomes.
Traditionally, breast augmentation has seen incremental advancements primarily focused on enhancing the safety and longevity of implants such as texturing, shell and core, as well as silicon quality. However, the introduction of Mia® represents a significant breakthrough in breast health.
Explain what Mia® is, its benefits, what makes it so special in terms of technology and technique, what it means to the consumers.
Mia®‘s revolutionary approach combines state-of-the-art materials with innovative design, resulting in implants that offer unparalleled natural look and feel. By prioritizing both aesthetic appeal and long-term durability, Mia® sets a new standard in breast enhancement, providing women with customizable options that cater to their individual needs and preferences. I am confident that being the first injectable implants with improved biocompatibility thanks to its innovative surface, Mia® will be the future of breast enhancement because it is not just about incremental improvements but about transformative innovations that redefine beauty and confidence. For those women who are not yet ready to go under the knife and undergo any major surgery I would say the only innovation or breakthrough recently is Mia®.
So what is Mia®?
Mia® is a minimally invasive procedure to enhance the breast shape and size to be in harmony with the rest of the body. It is performed under local anesthesia with mild sedation where the consumer is awake during the procedure, which lasts around 15 minutes. When a woman goes through the experience, she is in and out of the hospital in 90 minutes. She can then resume her normal daily life the same day. Another breakthrough is the fact that there are no scars on the breast. The scar is a very small inconspicuous scar in the axilla that blends in with the axillary wrinkles and lines. Also the very natural result so we don’t have this fake result that we see with patients undergoing the traditional breast augmentation.
One very important and in my opinion, the most important aspect of the procedure is the fact that it’s a breast preservation procedure which means we never cut any tissues inside the breast per se the ligaments are intact. The veins, arteries and nerves are intact as well as the gland so we just create a space in contrary to the traditional augmentation where we had to dissect a pocket. With Mia® we just create a space where the implant is injected using a special injector.
This aspect carries significant weight for women, particularly in terms of postoperative recovery and resumption of normal activities. Nowadays, many of them maintain demanding professional obligations that necessitate minimal time away from work, in addition to familial responsibilities such as caring for children. In this context, Mia®‘s approach offers considerable advantages, facilitating a quicker return to daily routines. Moreover, compared to conventional augmentation procedures, it reduces postoperative discomfort. Remarkably, the majority of women who went through the Mia® experience have reported experiencing pain levels ranging from one to two on a ten-point scale, underscoring the procedure’s efficacy in minimizing discomfort associated with breast surgery. And most importantly the sensation has not changed as well as the fact that they can breastfeed normally and they don’t feel that there’s a foreign body inside their breast so they just feel natural as if they were born with that breast.
So Mia® is currently exclusive to a certain number of surgeons not any surgeon can provide the Mia® procedure and in Lebanon only three surgeons are certified and this is because we underwent very rigorous training and proctorship in Europe, as well as in Lebanon before we were certified to be Mia® providers.
Do you think that minimally invasive is the future of breast aesthetics?
As for the future of plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery and aesthetics, I believe that the future is going in the direction of minimally invasive techniques which Mia® provides. I think in the future we will also see a breakthrough in buttock surgery as well. We can perform buttock implants using also minimal invasive techniques similar to the Mia® procedure and that will be a game changer in the field of aesthetics.
How do you prioritize consumers satisfaction and ensure a positive experience throughout their Mia® procedure journey, from initial consultation to post-procedure care?
Consumer satisfaction is another aspect that is very important to us as surgeons and with the media procedure. This is very much targeted and reached so all the consumers want to go report a very high-level of satisfaction with the result, the procedure, the whole experience, from the moment they step into the car, which is a special Limousine Service that takes them to the hospital and takes them back so they don’t have to worry about driving or having somebody take them. They can come on their own and the procedure is so calm and so easy that the consumer feels they are not undergoing surgery actually they feel they’re going to the spa and getting treatment for their
body like a massage or any other treatment.
Another important aspect about consumer satisfaction is to make sure they know what to expect so we have to explain very well and show them pictures so we focus on very realistic expectations. Consumers have to understand that it’s a very, very natural result.
I have some consumers who testified after the new procedure and they were so happy and satisfied with the result and experience. I have a younger lady, not married yet who works as a pharmacist and a pharmacy company and as she was planning to get married in a couple of months and she was not very happy and confident with the shape and size of her breast so she decided to undergo this procedure, which went great. She results are so natural and so beautiful and in harmony with her body that she is very happy and talking about it to all her friends.
What could be the secret to long-term satisfaction in your practice?
The key to long-term satisfaction in plastic surgery practice lies in understanding that we can never have perfect results, here I would like to say we can never have perfect results.
I always say the next case is better than the previous case but in general, there are certain factors that affect the long-term outcome and satisfaction of our patients. First is to have an individualized approach so every patient is special in its own sense and has to be treated that way we cannot give the same procedure to all consumers.
Every consumer needs a tailor-made approach and surgery that fit her body and her individual needs. Quality also is very important for me. It’s probably the most important, so you need to provide very good quality from A to Z as well as the best environment for the patient. The best implants technique is also very important, that’s why above all innovation is key.. With innovation comes quality, and better techniques which lead to better outcomes and better results.
