CEO, Burjeel Holdings

“Our collaboration with Oracle Health will enable the integration of Burjeel’s clinical ecosystem.”

Burjeel Holdings has awarded Oracle Health a contract to implement an advanced comprehensive electronic medical records system. “Hospitals” magazine had the pleasure to meet with John Sunil, CEO, Burjeel Holdings, who talked about this collaboration that enables physicians to create more personalized and effective treatment plans, reducing the risk of medical errors and improving patient care. Below is the full interview.

What is the significance of this step for Burjeel Holdings in terms of providing the highest level of healthcare?

Electronic Medical Record (EMR) adoption has always been a priority for us at Burjeel Holdings. Recently, we signed a strategic agreement with Oracle Health to implement a state-of-the-art omnichannel and integrated EMR platform across our network. Healthcare technology innovation is a focus area for us at Burjeel Holdings and this collaboration is a step in that direction. Deploying this integrated system has multiple benefits, and it will pave the way for seamless patient care. The new platform will provide our clinicians with a simplified yet comprehensive view of patient information, enabling more informed care decisions. By integrating this platform across our clinical ecosystem, we hope to implement transformative changes like reduced waiting time and increased patient face time with clinicians. Our collaboration with Oracle Health is a testament to our commitment to continually improving our healthcare services and improving the well-being of our patients.

How do electronic medical records contribute to improving patient safety and the speed of decision making?

A comprehensive EMR platform allows for a more holistic approach to patient care. This system enables physicians to access a patient’s complete medical history, including past diagnoses, treatments, and medications.
They are able to create more personalized and effective treatment plans, reducing the risk of medical errors and improving patient care. With EMRs, digital health records can be shared across different specialties and departments to improve communication and coordination between our different units, which can lead to more accurate diagnoses and better treatment decisions. This platform also factors in EMR user experience, empowering patients by providing them access to their own records and medical information.

Patients can be actively involved in their healthcare decisions, fostering a sense of ownership and leading to better health outcomes through patient engagement.

Through this collaboration, how will Burjeel be able to continue its strategy of creating value by enhancing operational excellence through technology while improving clinical care and the patient experience?

Our collaboration with Oracle Health will enable the integration of Burjeel’s clinical ecosystem across our network of healthcare assets. Adopting this EMR platform is part of our efforts towards significantly improving clinical care with the goal of positively impacting outcomes, while also boosting operational and financial efficiencies. The platform makes us well positioned to continue delivering on our value-creation strategy of driving operational excellence through technology, whilst also enhancing patient experience. Beyond clinical benefits, this collaboration will help us optimize our administrative processes, reducing the paperwork burden, lowering operational costs, and enhancing overall efficiency in healthcare delivery. Our new EMR platform will allow us to customize workflow to the specific needs of each of our facilities, making it a valuable tool for healthcare professionals.

How does this impact the quality of medical services provided to various patient groups?

The EMR platform is expected to minimize the errors associated with paper-based records. It also acts as a clinical decision support system, offering accurate and updated information to clinicians, helping them make quicker diagnoses. Quick access to a patient’s medical history and test results can help doctors offer timely care. The platform can also enhance patient safety by showing information about the patient’s allergies and other safety concerns for the clinician to consider. An EMR platform plays a significant role in creating well-defined clinical pathways, improving the delivery and outcomes of patient care.

Where does the importance lie in obtaining comprehensive patient data?

An EMR is a digital version of a patient’s paper medical chart. From basic details and insurance information to the patient’s medical history, and details of previous medication and diagnostic tests, our new platform will contain comprehensive information related to a patient’s healthcare. The EMR platform will ensure that doctors always have access to the most current information, which is essential when quick decisions are needed during surgery or emergency care. An EMR can act as an important tool in healthcare data interoperability. It empowers healthcare providers to access and share critical patient information, fostering a more connected and efficient healthcare ecosystem. Access to such crucial information through the system will help us support future care delivery approaches that require real-time care coordination and information exchange among multiple providers, patients, and locations.

What role does this collaboration play in encouraging hospitals and assisting them in adopting digital technology?

The collaboration between Burjeel Holdings and Oracle Health plays a vital role in encouraging hospitals to adopt digital technology. Oracle Health provides expertise, support, and tailored solutions for implementing advanced EMRs. They assist hospitals in integrating EMRs with existing systems and managing the change effectively. The collaboration also ensures access to updates and enhancements, enabling hospitals to continuously improve their technological capabilities. By making meaningful use of the EMR, we look forward to enhancing patient care, improving efficiency, and delivering high-quality healthcare services.
