KERN gains SFDA approval for its Premium Line in Saudi Arabia

KERN & SOHN GmbH has gained approval from the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) for the products of the KERN Premium Line. This will enable the Southern German family business to supply the market in Saudi Arabia with precise, reliable weighing solutions. The KERN Premium Line includes, as well as other products, medical personal floor scales, baby scales and chair scales, which stand out for their high levels of precision and ease of operation and also how simple it is to integrate them into hospital and practice systems.
‘‘SFDA approval confirms that our products meet the highest standards of quality and safety’’, Jobst Kamal, Category Manager Medical at KERN was delighted to say, ‘‘It also emphasises our commitment to innovative solutions, which are tailored to the requirements of the medical and scientific sectors.’’
With this approval, KERN is planning to expand its distribution network in the Middle East. Through working with local partners, medical devices industrial users and scientific customers will be supported in the best possible way.

Seamless integration
The baby scales, personal floor scales, chair scales and wheelchair platform scales in the KERN Premium Line have interfaces, such as, for example WLAN, USB, Bluetooth and Ethernet. Using these, hospitals, medical practices and care institutions can integrate the products seamlessly into their IT networks to suit their individual requirements.
Ease pressure on staff, speed up processes
Patients’ weighing data can be transferred wirelessly from any balance in the Premium Line at the touch of a button or using a remote control command to the digital patient record, for example, using WLAN. According to Jobst Kamal, medical practices, hospitals and care institutions can achieve several benefits through this digitization of weighing data:
- Processes are accelerated because time-consuming manual data maintenance is no longer required and staff can access patients’ weighing data within a few seconds.
- Errors which could occur through entering the weight by hand are avoided.
- This eases the pressure on doctors, nurses and receptionists in their daily tasks: For example, a baby on the baby scale will have the full attention of the operator because a touch of the button on the scale is all you need to save the weight straight into the electronic patient record.
Mobile, hygienic, easy to operate
As well as their digital network capability, all balances in the KERN Premium Line are characterized by how easy they are to operate and how simple it is to clean them hygienically.
The personal floor scales are fitted with a parent and child function, which makes it easier to weigh a child if they are being held by their parent: The first step is to determine the weight of the mother or father. The person then steps on the scale with the child, and the scale will display the weight of the child straightaway. The KERN MWN wheelchair platform scale also offers a Hold function, just like the baby scales and personal floor scales: This means that if the patient is restless in a seated, standing or lying position, a stable weight can be determined using an average weight procedure and then frozen.
All balances in the KERN Premium Line can be used as mobile devices when required, with batteries, mains adapter plugs or with a rechargeable battery pack as an option. In addition to SFDA approval, all models also have approval for medical use in accordance with 93/42/EEC.
