Excellence in Healthcare… Cedars-Sinai

A Leading Destination For Patients Worldwide

Cedars-Sinai has been recognized for nine years in a row on the “Best Hospitals” Honor Roll by U.S. News & World Report. Cedars-Sinai’s sterling reputation and world-class services make it a leading destination for patients worldwide. The U.S. News & World Report rankings place Cedars-Sinai among the top hospitals in the U.S. in multiple healthcare specialties, including: Cardiology, Heart & Vascular Surgery; Gastroenterology & GI Surgery; Diabetes & Endocrinology; Neurology & Neurosurgery; Obstetrics & Gynecology; Orthopedics; and Pulmonology & Lung Surgery.

Leading the Way in Transplantation

Cedars-Sinai is a world leader in cutting-edge surgical technologies. The Cardiology Department at the Smidt Heart Institute at Cedars-Sinai has the largest heart transplantation program in the U.S. Its expert surgeons have performed heart transplants for more than 1,600 patients since the program was launched.

Jon Kobashigawa, MD, director of the program, recently became president of the American Society of Transplantation, an organization of more than 5,000 clinicians and other healthcare professionals who work in the field of organ transplantation.

Known for tackling particularly complex cases, in 2023 Cedars-Sinai surgeons completed a successful triple organ transplant, providing a patient with a new heart, liver and kidney—and a new lease on life—during a 20-hour operation. Cedars-Sinai is also a leader in research identifying ways to prevent and treat organ rejection, a vital area of expertise for transplantation.

Exploring New Worlds With Stem Cells

The Regenerative Medicine Institute at Cedars-Sinai is at the forefront of developments in the programming of stem cells to become liver, kidney, heart, lung, brain, spine, tendon, cartilage and other types of cells. The institute can produce these cells in large quantities and has become a hub for the development of cutting-edge stem cell research. In an ongoing partnership with NASA, the institute has launched its fourth collection of stem cell experiments to the International Space Station. Cedars-Sinai researchers are now testing the programming of stem cells in microgravity to become new heart and brain cells.

World Leaders in Cancer Care

Anyone facing a cancer diagnosis wants the reassurance of knowing they are receiving expert care. Cedars-Sinai’s renowned cancer doctors, researchers, nurses and staff treat more than 60 types of cancer. They guide patients through the entire care journey, leveraging the latest scientific innovations and the most up-to-date technology.

Cedars-Sinai scientists are forging the future of cancer treatment. Their research includes novel immunotherapies that help the body’s immune system battle the disease, and individually targeted therapies that make more of the patient’s own cancer-fighting cells. Clinical trials are available in many leading-edge treatments.

Specialized Care for International Patients

Cedars-Sinai’s groundbreaking research and specialized care have garnered an international reputation for excellence and attracted many patients from outside the U.S. Los Angeles is one of the most culturally rich and diverse cities on the planet—known worldwide for its beaches and museums, and for attractions such as Hollywood and Disneyland. Cedars-Sinai is centrally located in Beverly Hills, providing easy access to everything L.A. has to offer.

“Every year, thousands of patients come to Cedars-Sinai from around the world,” said Heitham Hassoun, MD, chief executive of Cedars-Sinai International, which is responsible for overseas patients and collaborations with hospitals and healthcare systems outside of the U.S. “We care for patients from more than 100 countries annually. Many need to be treated for complex conditions that the healthcare systems in their home countries are not yet able to manage.”

This year, and for the second consecutive time, Global Healthcare Accreditation has recognized Cedars-Sinai for providing international patients with the highest-quality healthcare in the U.S. An exceptional level of personalized concierge care is available to international patients at Cedars-Sinai, including assistance with short- or long-term housing, airline ticketing, ground transportation and medical document review.

Cedars-Sinai’s physicians create individual treatment plans for all international patients, and our multilingual staff provides support and advice throughout the full cycle of care.

Last year, Cedars-Sinai opened its International Lounge, a place where patients and their companions can relax in comfort. It includes a quiet room for meditation and prayer as well as conference rooms for meetings and consultations, among other amenities.

Big Changes

“There are big changes taking place in 21st-century global healthcare,” Dr. Heitham Hassoun said. “Impressive new healthcare facilities are being established in key regions, including the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America. Cedars-Sinai continues to expand our collaboration with facilities around the globe.”

With an office opened in Mexico City in 2023 and another in Singapore in 2024, Cedars-Sinai now has multiple regional offices—and more are planned in Ecuador, Qatar and elsewhere. Cedars-Sinai International is also set to open two clinics in London in 2025, providing expertise and seamless connections to both U.K. and U.S. specialists.

The London-area clinics will offer highly personalized primary and outpatient specialty care and concierge medicine services in a prestigious environment with premium service.

“By meeting patients where they are, we can connect them with expert care providers at Cedars-Sinai and help coordinate their medical travel to Los Angeles or provide remote video consultations,” said Benjamin Seo, Cedars-Sinai International’s director of Global Business Development. “We’re working to support local healthcare and, at the same time, provide the best-possible experience for those who are able to travel to our medical center in Los Angeles.”

It’s All About the Patient

Cedars-Sinai’s Patient Experience team continues to strive for excellence at every level of healthcare services.

“Our global network continues to grow, and our expert doctors, nurses, researchers and managers are now reaching people all over the world,” Dr. Heitham Hassoun said. “But I can guarantee that one thing won’t change: The patient is at the center of everything we do. Everyone who comes to Cedars-Sinai can trust that they will receive the very highest quality healthcare from people who are dedicated to their well-being and progress.”
