KERN & SOHN GmbH – Chair scale combines mobility with digital documentation
KERN & SOHN GmbH is launching the KERN MCF, a mobile chair scale for medical diagnostics. This scale makes it easier to weigh patients with limited mobility and transfers weight data to digital patient records over Wi-Fi. The model is designed for hospitals, doctors’ surgeries, nursing homes and rehabilitation centres.
Mobility in everyday hospital and care settings
KERN has equipped the scale with four swivel castors and locking brakes on all four wheels. The large castors make it easier to negotiate door thresholds, edges and lift gaps. This enables care staff to quickly move the scale between wards and rooms and weigh patients right where they are. This reduces day-to-day effort and increases safety, as patients no longer need to be accompanied to a scale.
The comfortable, ergonomically shaped seat provides secure support during weighing. Folding armrests and footrests make it easier to sit down and transfer, for example from a bed to the chair scale. The model is also suitable for patients with obesity.
A hold function calculates and stores a stable weight value by averaging multiple readings, even if the patient is restless while seated. The scale also features a BMI function for determining whether a patient is underweight, of normal weight or overweight.
A direct connection to digital patient records
The integrated Wi-Fi interface enables the direct and reliable transfer of weight data to digital patient records. This eliminates the need for manual data entry and reduces potential documentation or transmission errors considerably. At the same time, the scale can be seamlessly integrated into existing EMR and EHR systems. It therefore supports a seamless digital workflow in everyday hospital operations. The scale is also equipped with a KERN Universal Port (KUP) for connection to other systems and end devices. External interface adapters for RS-232, USB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Ethernet can be connected via the port without any installation effort.
The chair scale features a weighing range of up to 300 kg with a readability of 0.1 kg. It is approved for medical use in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2017/745 and is also available with Class III verification. The scale can be powered by a power supply unit, batteries or an optional rechargeable battery.
