Clinical Specialties
Brain Tumors (Surgical & Neuro-Oncology)
The Henry Ford Health brain tumors program is Internationally recognized for its expertise in the treatment of gliomas, meningiomas, metastatic brain tumors, and skull base tumors, the Henry Ford Neurosurgery program integrates the most advanced surgical and technological approaches available today. These include sophisticated preoperative and intraoperative imaging, functional surgical mapping, Gleolan (5-ALA) fluorescence-guided resection, Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy (LITT), and implantable radiation therapies, all tailored to maximize precision and patient safety.
Spine Surgery
Henry Ford Health is a national leading spine surgery in the advanced treatment of spinal disorders, offering comprehensive care for a wide range of conditions including trauma, tumors, infections, and spinal deformities. Our spine program combines clinical expertise with the most advanced technology available to deliver highly individualized care. Whether using anterior, lateral, or posterior approaches, we tailor every surgical plan to the unique needs of the patient.
Our surgeons are at the forefront of innovation, performing both minimally invasive and complex reconstructive procedures using state-of-the-art technologies such as robotic-assisted surgery, augmented reality (AR) navigation, intraoperative MRI and CT, and laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT). These technologies allow for unparalleled precision, improved outcomes, and faster recovery.
Henry Ford Health is at the forefront of spinal surgery innovation, leading the way by using cutting-edge technologies in surgery that enhance precision, safety, and outcomes. Our spine surgeons employ advanced techniques, including robotic-assisted surgery and augmented reality navigation, to ensure the exact placement of hardware during procedures to stabilize fractures, correct deformities, or reconstruct the spine after trauma or tumor removal. These technologies have significantly reduced the risk of hardware misplacement, offering unparalleled surgical accuracy. With intraoperative CT-guided imaging, our surgeons are able to confirm precise hardware placement in real time, before the patient even leaves the operating room, ensuring the highest standards of safety and success.
Functional & Epilepsy Surgery
Our functional and Epilepsy surgery program offers a full spectrum of advanced surgical therapies for movement disorders and epilepsy, including both asleep and awake Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), Responsive Neurostimulation (RNS), Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS), and epilepsy surgeries such as temporal lobectomy, laser ablation (LITT), and stereo-electroencephalography (SEEG) for drug-resistant seizures. Beginning in October 2025, we will also offer High-Frequency Focused Ultrasound (HIFU, a noninvasive, incisionless treatment option for patients with Essential Tremor and Parkinson’s disease.
Cerebrovascular Neurosurgery
Henry Ford Health neurosurgeons are experts in aneurysm clipping/coiling, AVM resection, bypass surgery, and stroke intervention, the team works in close collaboration with fellowship trained and US board-certified endovascular neurologists and neuroradiologists to deliver rapid, coordinated care. Henry Ford Health consistently meets or exceeds national benchmarks for stroke response times, ensuring timely interventions such as thrombectomy and thrombolysis that are critical to minimizing brain damage. Stroke recovery is further supported through the combined efforts of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, opening soon at Henry Ford Hospital, and operating at Henry Macomb hospital and Henry Ford Wyandotte hospital offering world- class, multidisciplinary rehabilitation aimed at maximizing recovery and quality of life.
Peripheral Nerve & Pain Surgery
Henry Ford Health’s neurosurgery program offers advanced expertise in peripheral nerve and pain surgery, providing comprehensive care for patients with complex and often debilitating conditions. This includes the treatment of nerve compression syndromes such as carpal tunnel and tumors, including those associated with neurofibromatosis. The team also specializes in the surgical management of chronic pain, offering procedures such as spinal cord stimulation and intrathecal pain pump implantation. Care is delivered through a multidisciplinary approach in close coordination with neurology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and pain management, ensuring that each patient receives a personalized treatment plan aimed at restoring function and improving quality of life.
Neurofibromatosis
Henry Ford Health offers a comprehensive, coordinated, multidisciplinary program for the care of patients with Neurofibromatosis (NF, a complex, lifelong condition that requires coordinated expertise across specialties. Whether a patient is diagnosed with NF1, NF2, or Schwannomatosis, the program is designed to address the full spectrum of needs from diagnosis through treatment and long-term management.
Experts in Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH)
Our comprehensive, patient-centered, multidisciplinary team integrates advanced diagnostics, surgical expertise, and coordinated care to optimize outcomes for patients with this often- misdiagnosed condition, one that can mimic neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, ensuring accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment plans.
